I am running a slash with the stock XL-5 ESC for now, and was curious to see what my best options are for the motor and gearing. I will be running a 2 cell LIPO, but I need some more speed out of this. I heard something about the Orion motor. What size, and what gearing should I run with this if this is indeed the best option.
Thanks Dima

Any 540 size mod motor is an improvement. I like the Trinity Speed Gems series myself. The 17 turn in that series is just a touch faster then stock. You can go down to a 13 or 14 and it will be a ton faster.

you cant go down to a 13 or 14 with the stock esc though. i would say get either a 17t or a 19t motor and a epic or trinity speed gems motor. i have a team orion forumula pro bb motor and it is just as fast as stock. this motor is great, but the only downside is that the shaft on the motor ist just barley long enough for the pinion to go on. the shaft dosent even come out past the pinion. so go with a epic or a trinity speed gems pro. just as good. just a longer shaft though. dont go below a 17t motor with the slash, because the motor will heat up if you go with a 15t motor because the slash is too heavy for it. the stock esc can handle down to a 15t motor. but for the motor not to overheat i would go with a 17t or 19t like i said. and for the pinion gear make sure it is 1-2 teeth than the # of turns the motor has. so if you get a 19t motor, then get a 18t-17t pinion. if a 17t, get a 16t-15t pinion gear. this is so the motor doesnt overheat. hope this helps.

FORGET THE MODIFIED MOTORS GO BRUSHLESS, GET THE MAMBA MAX 4600KV go with the mamba 5700kv! i run it in my slash and its all that you can hang on to. it has the extra speed when ya need it but can be programed to handle anything. go with the 5700 ;D ;D

As a theoretical example, what would happen if I had a 13T motor paired with a stock ESC and a 19T pinion and a 90T spur?
