I am getting my Stock Spec racing slash ready for racing. I have read up and researched alot if great info on alot of forums and I have come up with alot of idea's to make this a better race truck. Here is what I have done so far.
The suspension was very gritty and not smooth at all. The rear was actually very still and caused the suspension to work like is not supposed to.
To fix this I took all of the hinge pins out of the truck and put the non threaded part into the dremel and used mothers polish and run the dremel on low until the pins come out very shiny.
Then I took a drill bit the same exact size as the holes the hingpins go though on the rear bulk head and the bearing holders and ran it for a little bit. (not too fast you will get it too hot and melt too much plastic)
I would check the fit every 5-10 seconds until I was happy with the smoothness. (checked by insearting the pins into them and see if they would move freely). This made a big difference.
To help smooth out the steering I replace the bellcrank bushings with bearings. This seemed to speed up the steering response time.
On the bearings I removed the rubber sheild and cleaned the thick grease out. I was amazed on how much the grease held dirt and grime in them. I run the bearings without grease. I just use Tri-Flow. I can free spin the front tires and they seem to spin forever. Just make sure to clean them after every race or 2.
If I think of anymore things I have figured out or read in other forums I will post here. The changes this has made in the handling is huge. The truck reacts to adjustments much better.

I know graphite lube would also help out the hinge pins.

I just did the dremel/drill thing with my rear hinge pins and wow, what a difference. Before when I pushed down on the Slash it would'nt rebound much, but now it springs up like it should. This should be a required maintenance item after every few runs...

Yeah the suspension is stiff stock thats for sure. But a little bit of work and its butter.

No more idea's on this. The bearings in the steering helped out alot on the steering too. My truck is very smooth turning and the suspension is like silk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
There is alot of small things that can be done to the slash to make it more race ready and still keep it legal for the spec class.

Another member told me this on another thread. The rear bearing holders have alot of play in the from front to back. Take some very thin shims and shim them the way you prefer. I choose to run the shims to make the wheelbase a little shorter. Below is a pic of what I am talking about. Even with the shim the movement is not impeded. Still flows like butta.........

Does using bearings instead of bushings , in the steering bellcranks, make you ineligable for SPEC Class??
Dont get me wrong , I own 5 VERY tricked Slashes, me and the kids.
I also own 2 bone stock ones, for spec racing.
Is what you did "legal" for the class?

In my class as long as it is not a preformance gain it is ok. Ie the electronics and such. Our rules are a little lax compared to others. But I highly doubt anyone would even check the sterring assembly. Visually you can not even see a difference.
I guess you could say it is not legal but the thread is Tips, CHEATS, and tricks. Just a fun forum and nothing to be taken too serious.

yeah they would never notice steering bearings.
Rules are just guidelines right ;D

Yea guidelines. lol.......
It makes a major difference. More so it the bushings are starting to wear out.

Nice tips!
Hopefully I will be racing my Slash this summer and will certainly be using some of these tips.

I read in the forums about the fix for the rear bumper. Is that modd working. The bottom of my rear bumper keeps poping out of place. On one side there is a screw on the other there is not.
I am thinking about taking a 2mm drill bit and run it completly through the tranny case and out of the other side and just use a longer screw with maybe a nut on it.
What do you guys think.
I think a 63mm screw will be long enough with a nut on the back. Is that too long or too short.
