hello, I am new to the slash. I just got mine 2 weeks ago, and love it. I ran 3 batteries (5000 venom 8.4v) before I changed it to the vxl system. then spun the stock tires off the stock rims. SO, now i have beadlock rims and proline switch tires. Still waiting for my LHS to order me a 3s 11.1v 30c 5000 or higher battery. I wanted to get the most speed out of my slash. what is the best combo of pinion and spur gear for the most speed? I work nights and run my slash after 11pm so it really does not get hot. at least right now, we will see what the summer nights have in store. I have been reading some of the post here and most mention lower pinion gears than the traxxas website states for the best speed for the vxl rustler. can anyone help. and thanks in advanced for the info.

On the traxxas website there is a rustler that is running almost 90mph. I am about to start a build for the fastest E-Jato. By chance what did you do with the Titan motor you took off of your Slash?

you should be looking at the stampede gearing for the vxl not the rustler. with a 3s lipo batt, the tires might (probably will) come off the beadlocks, and it will be uncontrollable on 3s. go with a 2s lipo batt, cuz then you will get great speed and good handling compared to awesome speed and bad handling (uncontrollable). i would say gear it 25/86 and if its not too hot go ahead and gear it 25/83.

Dont know what I am going to do with the titan motor yet. I have a crawler that I am working on and a special body idea that it might end up in, I will unvail the finished crawler at the rc expo in april at the pomona fairplex.

I will take a look at the stampede specs. thanks

top speed? gear it 81 /25 besides the tires ripping off the beadlocks i think one of your main problems would be keeping the body on the ground at speed the smallest bomp in the road will send it flying you will want to mount the shocks as low as possible use a stiffer spring set in the rear add both a front and rear wing you'll have to realize that a 1/10 scale r/c going at just 30mph is already going at 300 scale mph so aerodynamics will play a huge role btw: you might want to mount your lower links inboard on your crawler and get a longer draglink to attatch it to the right knuckle. ;D
