Hello all, I am new to the slash, had an rc10 buggy about 18 yrs ago, so I am new to rc again! The slash brought me back. I was wondering what would be the best combination for longer run times, motor, batteries etc, not sure I can want to go brushless as of yet, unless it is wise without lipo, (kind of scared) If i did I was thinking of the sidewinder 4600? I am not really looking for more speed, i like the realizm of the slash, the reason i sold my rc10 along time ago was because I was sick of 7 min runtimes. Many thanks in advance!

The stock Slash will go quite long with any decent battery that is built with less internal resistance. I can get about 15 minutes on a 4000mah pack. However, you wouldn't want to run your Slash for anything more than 10 minutes without cooling intervals. It will definitely shorten the motor life.
As far as driving tips to increase run time, avoid changing directions(going from reverse to forward or vice versa) so much or using less brakes if you can.

no need for a lipo in a 4600kv
you get plenty of wheelspeed and runtimes w/ a good 4000MaH NiMh
id suggest going w/ a 7 or 8 cell though

i have an exact 31minutes with a mamba max esc and a 4600motor, with a 19t pinion, and a maxamps 6000mah 2s li-po. i can'T ask for more! and it's fast enough with a 4600

the stock slash that my brother has is pretty fast out of the box with a 7 cell 4500 orian rocket pack. and get about 25 min. the electronices and motor dont even get warm for him. its great, and just makes me jealous because i got to monitor my temps in my 7700kv mm setup

Personally,I like the Vellineon system,18/86 gearing and a 8 cell Reedy3600 nihm pack. gets about 15-20 min run time. My Trakpower 3s lipo is insane!!!

I just ran a Lemans style race(slashapalooza) at my track last week.Five hours straight with one slash.Five different drivers, did I say 5 HOURS straight.Only one motor out of 11 trucks did not finish.all ran 520-595 laps.one guy pulled the mototr apart after the race(all stock 12 turns) and the brushess hadnt even fully seated yet.Unlike most replaceable brushes that are alread contoured, these are square new,so break in that motor at 2volts for up to and hour.I do hear of people blowing new motors but mine have all run forever and are still running!
