How do you properly break in the motor. I have seen people put them in water and spin them up but my LHS told me to remove the pinion and run the motor at light throttle for about 1/2 hour.
Any other suggestions?

There's several ways, the water method is the fastest, and results in the best performance, but at a price... The motors don't last as long.
The hobby shop way is a good idea for all around use. It will result in having god performance and motor life. I like to use a 4 cell battery pack to run them in, or if you have a charger with a motor break in you can use that.

I personally use the water break-in method. That way you can see the debris and trash that is in the motor brand new. I had one motor that was just full of junk. Parts and pieces of magnet material from the manufacturing process was in the motor.
Both methods will work like Rob said above the water break-in does shorten the brush life. I even go as far as putting a small amount of dish soap in the water and run it for a few minutes after I break the motor in.
This might not be the recommendation that alot would use but it has always worked for me.
Pick you method and stick to it. Be consistent in everything you do.....

Titans are cheap....I don't break them in. I just run em till they die and buy another one.
