Rogue Element Components S.C.A.B. for the Traxxas Slash
Wow, now this is slick. The slipper clutch has to be one of the most passed up tuning aids. Now with the S.C.A.B. (Slipper Clutch Adjustment Button) you will be able to quickly unleash this great tuning aid. No more "I don't have time to adjust it" or "I don't have the wrench handy". The S.C.A.B solves all those problems. No tools. No fuss.
Installation was straight forward. Remove the 2 screws securing the original gear cover, and bolt in the S.C.A.B. with the original screws. The S.C.A.B. features a genuine RPM gear cover, so not only are you making adjustment a breeze, but adding better protection to your gears at the same time. Can't beat that!
There is one modification you have to make to install the S.C.A.B unit, and thats to lightly clearance the rear bumper mount as shown in the location of the arrow. For this I used a rotary tool with a sanding drum. Be careful, you don't have to remove much. You will notice my rear bumper no longer has the part on the skid. I removed that before I got the S.C.A.B. due to it getting damaged. Testing has shown that there is not any clearance issues with it on though, its just a tight fit. Also, if your running the stock 12t sealed motor, you will need to remove 1/8" off the end of the shaft where the pinion gear goes. This goes for all RPM gear cover installs though as outlined on their website.
Overall, I think this is a must have for your Slash. If you plan on spending the cash for an RPM cover, spend a few more dollars and get the S.C.A.B. and explore the mythical slipper clutch that everyone has seem to have forgotten.
Pro's:
- Very affordable, and fast shipping. Free shipping for VIP members!
- Includes a genuine RPM gear cover
- No tools required to make adjustments
- Clean, well thought out design not only looks great, but works great as well.
Con's:
- Only con isn't Rogue's fault, but if I have to pick something, its that you have to mod the rear bumper mount and trim the motor shaft to make the S.C.A.B fit. This is not a big deal at all though. If RPM comes out with a revised gear cover for the Slash, then problem solved.
Rogue also offers the S.C.A.B. for Losi and Associated vehicles as well. I also ordered one for my Team Associated B4, and it works just as nice.
