Like many others I could not leave well enough alone and decided to hop up my Slash. I ordered the VXL motor and speed control package. I installed it into the slash per the instructions. I ran it last night with a Max Amps 7.4V 5000mah Lipo battery, and had a blast. The truck was running great and fast throwing up huge rooster tails from the rear wheels. After running the battery down I noticed the motor was hot and the speed controll was only warm. I don't know how hot the motor was because I do not have a temp gauge but it was too hot to hold your finger on it for more than a second. I am running the stock gearing 86 tooth spur and 18 tooth pinion. I let the motor cool overnight and tried running it this morning with a duratrax 8.4V 4600mah NIMH battery. At first the truck would only go a short distance and go into low voltage protection. I dissabled the low voltage protection and was able to run the truck but it ran slower than it did with the stock 12T titan motor. I thought it might be the battery so I went to back to the Lipo battery that was freshly charged. I put back on the low voltage protection. And the same thing happened the truck would go a short distance and go into low voltage protection. I disabled the voltage protection and tried again. This time the truck would run but not nearly as fast as it did the pervious day, and still slower than the stock configuration with the 12T titan motor.
I tried multiple batterys, reprograming the speed control to the transmitter and check the different mode ( sport, race and training). I checked all the connections to the motor and the battery. I read the manual a couple of times and still can't figure out what I did or what changed from the other day to lose performance.
Did I ruin the motor by letting it get too hot the first time? If the motor did get too hot do they just stop working?
Thanks so much for your help in advance I am at a loss here and want to get back to throwing those huge rooster tails of dirt.
