new to brushless motors i have 8 cell nimh batteries and was thinking of getting a vxl set up what kind of run time & speed would this give me compared to stock brushed motor? i know just adding the 8 cell to the stock motor gave me good results. also are the brushless set ups really that maintenence free like the they claim?

the brushless systems are virtually maintenence free. as far as run times, with a bl system up to 20% longer run time compared to brushed. you can double your speed also

the brushless motor needs to be cleaned and the bearings re-lubed every few runs... (10-15) .

Thanks For The Input! would it be considerably faster just by changing The Motor & speed control ? Because i do not want to get into lipo batteries . I will stick with NIMH bats. i just backyard bash I'm not racing so not wanting to spend lots of money on batteries & chargers. i just keep frying brushed motors! i guess 8 cells are to much for brushed motors.

also another question i keep striping spurs & pinions what is everybody using to keep them alive? especially with VXL i set the mesh the usual way with a piece of paper. Also i have a friend his is doing the same thing so I'm afraid if i put a vxl in it. it will really tear up gears.

set it the best you can and buy spares. some have also done a 32p conversion, or get the metal gear from evil bay

Sounds like the slipper is locked down, so there's nothing to take the shock out of the drivetrain when you land full throttle. Try adjusting the slipper, so that when you punch it on a high traction surface, it slips for about a foot.

some traxxas spur are just not equal all around. I stripped 2 than the one that i installed before the last 2 races was perfectly round, didn't strip it and not showing any wear! and i am bad at landing and going back to the throttle too quick but as Rob says, try adjusting the slipper on EACH surfaces that you drive on, it will help
