Made this for another site and thought I would share it here.
First we'll do a little calculating and part listing.
Transmission gears - Final Ratio = 2.727
2388x - 60T Ring Gear
3696 - 30T Idler Gear
3195 - 22T Drive Gear
Spur and pinion Combos
1918 - 18T Pinion (stock)
2423 - 23T Pinion (Optional included)
4686 - 86T Spur (stock)
4683 - 83T Spur (optional)
4690 - 90T Spur (optional)

Wheels - Outer Diameter = 4.37"
5873 - Stock Wheel set
Using the Dark Horse RC Calculator I plugged in numbers and here is what I got for numerous setups using %75 efficiency for the motor. I’m not sure what the temps would be so I’m guessing on pinion choices to motor setups based on what I’ve read about what other people have tried. Basically gearing down the higher KV motors so they are comparable to each other in speed.

As for which speed control I would recommend? Well I have limited experience with the VXL system. I've drove one and have done some minor programming. It programs easily for a touch style speed control. I have a lot of experience with the Sidewinder and Max speed controls from Castle Creations. The sidewinder can be programmed right out of the box similarly to the process used for the VXL, however they offer the Castle Link programming kit that lets you customize braking power, throttle curves, braking curves, voltage cutoff, timing, start up power, etc all through the PC. The Mamba Max comes with this option.
