Hello all:
After reading through all the posts, in every thread that has to do with the Short Course Off-Road Racing fad that is covered all over this forum, I have noticed that there is a lot of misconceptions associated with the numerous kits that have been released over the past few months.
It is the intention of this post to help sort through the misconceptions & misunderstandings that seem to be causing a lot of arguments over which kit is better than the other.
The truth is, every one of these kits has it's good points, as well as it's bad. However, they are not all created equal.
Let us start by first telling you all what the Thunder Tech Short Course Pro-2wd isn't:
It Is not just another buggy chassis with a cool looking body designed to trick you into thinking that it is something it's not!!
And it's not the next example of how to use smoke & mirrors to camouflage an old, outdated, entry level basher or toy.
Now on to just what the Thunder Tech Short Course Pro-2wd is:
It is, the ONLY True To Scale short course R/C race truck with a straight rear axle!!!
It is designed to be "The Most Accurate Rendition of a Short Course / Off-Road Race Truck to ever be offered to the World of R/C Racing". We poured 2 years of hard work, research & development into the design of this project and the result was Thunder Tech's New SHORT COURSE PRO-2wd-The most realistic 10th scale off-road R/C race truck, EVER!!!
How about some full disclosure: Who else would have the guts to do this?
No, just because it was released first does not make it any better on any level. As a matter of fact, oftentimes, the last one to market usually has the most to offer.
Yes, other kits cost less than the SHORT COURSE PRO-2wd. However, those that do, offer far less detail and realism. In the R/C Hobby, you tend to get what you pay for.
No, the other kits are not 1/10 scale, no matter what the other manufactures say in their sales ads. The SHORT COURSE PRO-2wd is a true 1/10th scale offering. So far, all other offerings have either been 1/8th scale or have not had the proper proportions to be considered a true-to-scale offering.
Yes, the larger trucks will out handle the SHORT COURSE PRO-2wd due to their wider tires & independent rear suspension systems. That said, try not to compare our apple to their orange. If you want to drive a truck that challenges you less, then be prepared to give up scale realism. Remember that when it comes to scale hobbies, If it doesn't look, drive or wreck real - then it's not the full experience that it could be.
Yes, the SHORT COURSE PRO-2wd was designed to be a full on race-capable truck. It comes with bead lock wheels in addition to both front and rear sway bars. Although, from the time that this kit was conceived, we knew that we would be producing a kit that was so different that it would have no where to compete because no other R/C vehicle shared the same form factor-we knew very clearly that we would be alone until other kits could come on board. However, we still pressed on in the direction of total realism in 1/10th scale with no regrets. The thought was that this kit would spawn a spec class or two and if it took off, maybe other manufactures would follow our lead and come on board. Well, others jumped in alright, but went in the direction of a larger scale and different form factor instead of the true-to-scale route like we did. For now, a spec class is still the best thing for all who wish to race this truck in a fair setting and all it will take is a few of them showing up to the track and the rest will fall into place. Remember, the Slash Classes started in just the same manner.
No, Thunder Tech Racing does not have the same distributor and dealer network built up that larger companies have, so replacement parts will not be on the shelves of every hobby shop and R/C race track world wide. However, that does not mean that our customers won't have access to the parts that they want or need. It just means that some extra time or planning will need to be used by all. Replacement parts will be affordable and plentifully through our on-line store (www.thundertechracing.com)and with the help of our customers, our dealer network will keep on getting larger. Remember, if you ask your local hobby shop or race track to stock our parts, they just may start to. If you don't ask they won't have any idea of what you are buying elsewhere.
Yes, Thunder Tech Racing did in fact start the whole "True Scale SHORT COURSE Off-Road Racer" trend in R/C when we unveiled our first prototype of the then named "CORR Pro-2 Racer" at the IHOBBY Expo back in October of 2006. As a result it was profiled in the May issue of R/C Driver magazine.........jump ahead to the 2007 IHOBBY Expo, and you could see a constant flow of designers / project managers and department heads from other R/C manufacturing companies passing through the Thunder Tech booth to look at the truck that sparked the flame that has become the inferno that is today's short course, desert truck style of R/C Racing.
No, we do not feel that spending the extra time to do make sure that we did this project the right way and the justice that it deserved will not be our downfall as some have speculated. In fact, it looks like it will be the one thing that places our products above the others. It's long been our company mantra to not release a product until all the bugs are worked out, and that it's the best it can be. We see no reason to change from that simple concept now.
In closing, please don't view this as a sales ad or sour grapes on our part.
We believe that you all deserve as much information as we can give you in an effort to help you make decisions that are rooted in knowledge, not random speculation. If we do not try to educate those that are in need of information, then we have already failed to do our job as a supplier to this great hobby of ours.
The time has come for us to set the record straight and take our rightful place in the market that we started and forged over the past few years.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this post and for your understanding during the long wait for our new kit-we think you'll find it was worth it.
