I just ordered one of these, only to see a guys at the track today have problems. Here's the problem cut from another fourm
"**** was having issues with his speed control glitching with the Novak cut-off module, on the Slash. He would get no response when he would give it full throtle from a dead stop(cogging). However, when he rolled the throttle it would take off normally. Anyone else have this experience?"
Somebody there said it was the motor but it seemed too controlled of a cogging to be the motor. Antbody have one of these on their stock esc? Maybe the traxxas esc dosent like the cut-off module?

It seems to me, that when you push the car to full throttle, the motor/esc amp draw might be making the battery work over it's rated burst capacity thus lowering the average voltage and tripping the novak cut off, just an idea.

after everything I have read, the XL-5 does not like the Novak cutoff.
I've seen video of a guy using the Common Sense Cell Shield cutoff with no issues whatsoever, so I'm sure that one works.

The Common Sensce Shield Cutoff has a soft cutoff, which if you put it in neuteral then throttle, it resets. Does that mean it will keep running or will it accually cut off at the correct voltage?

Sounds like it gives you a warning, not actually cutting off the truck.

where do you get this thing? Anywhere that sells Novak products should be able to get it for you, but I have heard of a lot of people having issues with it. Traxxas speed controls are picky. I tried to install my XR3 radio in the slash with 2 different XL-5 esc's and neither would program to it. Install the stock radio, and it programs just fine. Go figure. |
