Anyone doing any spec racing yet? My club has a class started and the very first official race will be next saturday. Pretty much they only thing you can modify is body paint, shock caps, and a battery (still limited though) I'm running a maxamp 6000 once it shows up with the stock radio. Whats everyone else doing for spec setup?

I hope to have our first race July 20th. Still many people around here waiting to get their trucks though.
Sounds like getting your suspension set up right is going to be the ticket. I would spend as much time at the track as you can. No replacement for practice and getting to know the truck.

Good luck RCbif and BTW they don't give ya alot of options do they??? lol. Thats why its called Spec Racing b/c the point is to stick as close to stock as possible. Spec racing is meant for people who dont want to spend alot of money to race. Its a great way to get new people into the hobby. |

Dang I woulda never knew...i'm not fortunate for my track to have racing classes they just run everything together (normally just buggies, truggies, and mt's), I wish I could go and just watch a race!!! lol. Never even seen them race at the track that I go to just heard from my friend and never driven on it either!!!!  |

Once you have one and other local guys see it in action, and possible drive yours, others may pick some up... if you put in the effort, you could start a slash spec class at your track. Just needs some time and effort. Talk to the track manager and see if you can start a spec class... that alone might bring some guys outta the woodwork. hit local boards and post up the races and put up posters.. who knows... you may start the next best thing at your track! |

The local Spec class Runs it out-of-the-box except for the shock caps, and the only battery allowed is Venom 3000mah NiMh packs, just because they're cheap and easy to get. That way anybody can get into racing without any R/C equipment at all for about $250 bucks.

our local race is indoor(charlotte nc)and its spec with top three impound.but were working on getting an outdoor run what ya brung class in seagrove nc.the thing to remember with this truck is on hardpack and dusty tracks there isnt but so much power you can put down.and the guys running those brushless setups will be at a disadvantage.ive tryed all setups and the one i like the best is mamba max speedo with a 2c lipo and a brushed bb 17t motor at 17/86.the higher gearing has less wheelspin at lowend and tork comes on more slowly so if ya get into a drift you can save it without losing all the momentom

I had my first race yesterdayat my home town medina rc raceway, (site is below with pictures of the track) Went pretty much like this, -practice -racing but didnt make it to the slash class -hour and half of rain delay -slash guys(including me) screwing around on the muddy track afterwords -Track dried off -resumed racing -First race was a go all at once, lots of contact, motor died 1/2 way through(bushing was toast probally due to mud running  ) -bought new motor -Second race finished the whole thing, finished 6th place out of a whopping 12 TRUCKS! -More rain, only got to do 6 out of 5 races  -went home to clean and oil. All in all though it was ok, I'm suprised I finished in the top half of the pack, It was nuts with so many trucks out there so evenly matched. A warning to others while mud running is fun IT WILL DESTROY YOUR MOTOR FAST UNLESS YOU RINSE IT OFF EVERY MINUTE OR SO AND EVEN THEN IT WILL DIE IN A FEW RUNS. We had about 5 motors die yesterday probally due to mud. Some sort of lexan dust sheild fo the motor would be cool. I'm wondering how a motor with bearings instead of bushings would hold up in the mud? Slash racing=pretty fun  |

My first post here on this board.
I was in the race at medina and finished third in the first qual where we started like a race. Only lost 2nd by maybe 1/2 truck length. I had too much slipper set in the first run and made it too tight in the second run to do well. I wish we would have got in the 3rd and the main. I did not run in the mud like you guys. Years of experience told me not to do so.
Bearings would be against the rules but actually bushings last longer when mud packed. I will have the motor checker completed soon for checking the winning trucks for legal stuff. LOL
I plan on racing it again soon along with truggy. This class is really more fun to me though.

I am a happy new Slash owner. I bashed the truck for 2 days stright in the rain and mud and had a blast. So I Sunday I took my truck to the track to see how it do.This thing is a blast to drive and hooked up pretty after loosen up the slipper a little.I can't wait to race it in a few weeks. The only changes I made the box 50 weight oil in the front and 40 in the rear and set the camder to 2 degrees in the back and one in the front. I even out ran a buddy of mine T4 with a 4300 brushless in it.
Have any of you guys tried runnung oil in the diff and if so what wait did you use?

A buddy of mine tried oil in the diff but it didn't stay in to well. I think the oil was pretty light though (for diff use). 10k or so

I wish I had the lettering to do 24K... would fit perfectly. We need to get the 4 seasons rules down on paper. Dave kept getting on us for reverse, but as someone said in another post that is box stock right? I think its alright to use it, besides the corners are busy enough flipping rigs. Personally I also dont think some of the little stuff matters as much. Im with keeping the stock servos, ESC, motor, shocks, and wheels. Any adjustments to shock position and oil should be allowed... I broke a carrier and already replaced with RPM., and didnt adam too? A-arms and other RPM replacments dont really enhance performance, they more just improve durability. |
